Baptism - The mark of new believers

The LCMS Northern Illinois District is 220-plus congregations and mission sites of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, spanning 24 counties in the northern one-third of Illinois. This website primarily provides resources and tools for district used by our Lutheran churches and schools and the church workers that serve them. (Find maps of our churches and schools.)

The district is led by President Dan P. Gilbert. A parish pastor in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for 28 years, he has been the elected leader of the Northern Illinois District since 2006.

As a district of believers in Jesus, we have committed to work together, as the Holy Spirit guides, to establish new starts in and through congregations, which by God's grace result in new believers. Our district team of Mission Facilitators works directly with Lutheran congregations and schools to expand and strenghen outreach in a movement we call New Starts...New Believers.
