About Us

Baptism is the mark of new believers in Jesus Christ.

Welcome to our site

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod’s Northern Illinois District is 206 congregations plus new missions and satellite sites that span 24 counties in the northern third of Illinois.

As of June 1, 2018, the district is being led by President Allan R.  Buss with an emphasis on “keeping the main thing, the main thing” -faithfully serving the Gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing it in our community and world. President Buss explains: “Together, we will foster health for our workers and congregations in body, mind, and soul. We will ask the hard questions and stand with one another when times are difficult. We will encourage one another and bring out the best in each other. We will be leaders: following Jesus where He leads, vulnerable, and servant hearted. Above all, let us fix our eyes on Jesus.

How we serve:

Our district serves as the go-to place for issues related to our congregations, church workers and their ministries, ensuring Scriptural and Confessional faithfulness of doctrine and practice and helping each other to actively engage in our local communities and become a responsive church in changing times. District services include:

  • Inspiration planning, mentoring, and grants for missions – advancing His Kingdom
  • Accreditation and services for Lutheran schools
  • Calling/hiring structure and guidance for the church and church workers
  • Ministry support and financial services through Lutheran Church Extension Fund
  • Disaster response and volunteer engagement through Lutheran Church Charities
