Mission of Work

The mission of the LCMS and the NID is what is given in scripture. Our Lord Jesus Christ wants all to come to faith by grace through the preaching of the gospel (1 Tim 2:4). We are to make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching (Matt 28:19-20). This is summarized beautifully in Augsburg Confession Article V: "That we may obtain this faith, the Ministry of Teaching the Gospel and administering the Sacraments was instituted. For through the Word and Sacraments, as through instruments, the Holy Ghost is given, who works faith; where and when it pleases God, in them that hear the Gospel, to wit, that God, not for our own merits, but for Christ’s sake, justifies those who believe that they are received into grace for Christ’s sake." The NID, therefore, must focus on clear proclamation of this gospel of Christ's atoning death and administration of the Sacraments as Christ has instituted them, both to those in the church and outside, starting with our closest neighbors.

Challenges, Opportunities, and Goals

One of the biggest challenges in the nominations committee is finding people willing to serve, especially laypeople. I pray that I can continue to help the committee find strong candidates who will use their varied skills to strengthen our district in the doctrine of the Word of God (1 Corinthians 16:13; Titus 2:1). May God raise up candidates whom we are able to present as those who will use "big picture" district positions to strengthen the work of pastors and congregations in Northern Illinois.
