Mission of Work

The mission of the Church is to administer God's life-giving and life-sustaining Word and Sacraments according to Christ' mandate,
to love one another as Christ has loved us, and to be the light of the world by our words and actions, so that others are drawn to Christ.
The Divine Service is the center of the Church's mission, for it is there that people are baptized into Christ, that the Gospel is preached and the very Body and Blood of Christ is imparted. It is this Divine Service which strengthens us to live faithfully in our daily callings, bearing witness to Christ our Savior. It is to this Divine Service that we seek to draw the lost. The mission of the NID is to support this mission, and it is exemplified by President Buss' constant refrain in phone calls: "How can we help?"

Challenges, Opportunities, and Goals

The corner of God's Kingdom that is the East Region of the NID has numerous challenges. There have been five congregations that have closed their doors in my circuit alone since 2000. Numerous schools have closed their doors as well. This, despite having faithful pastors who preached God's Word faithfully. I see my role to encourage fellow pastors and church workers to remain confident in Christ and faithful to God's Word and the Lutheran Confessions, which are a proper exposition of that Word.
